Mr. Willie Blackmon chose to begin his education at Saint Francis School (Yazoo City, MS) and it served as the inspirational piece for his interest, growth and passion for working with youth and their families during his entire career. “The one on one attention St. Francis gave to each student helped him understand the importance of detail, education and community involvement in one’s life.” He went on to attend Jackson State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Master of Science in Education degree in Guidance and Counseling with an emphasis in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. He received additional education, training and certifications from the University of Mississippi and University of Nevada at Reno.
Mr. Blackmon is active and strongly committed in giving back to the community through service oriented programs and organizations. His accomplishments and membership associations have expanded over the years. He has adapted to today’s changes that promote growth and development for children and their families.
He is the former Director of Youth Services for the state of Mississippi. As Director, he administered the Community Services and Institutional programs for over 22,000 youths (annually) that were placed under the Division’s jurisdiction by the Mississippi Youth Courts.
Mr. Blackmon has coordinated and developed community Leadership and educational enhancement programs, as well as activities and events to enhance individual growth and development for youth and seniors. During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer for Community Solutions of MS, Inc. the organization was awarded federal funding to develop, implement and expand Mentoring services to youth that would provide life skills, resources and enhancing academic performance for their success in life.
