Lisa Nored

Lisa S. Nored, J.D., Ph.D. is Professor of Criminal Justice at The University of Southern Mississippi where she serves as Director of the School of Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Security.  Dr. Nored earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from USM; her J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law in 1996 and the Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University in 2007.

Dr. Nored began her legal career at the Supreme Court of Mississippi where she served as law clerk to Justice James W. Smith, Jr.  Following her clerkship, she returned to the Hattiesburg area where she engaged in the private practice of law and later joined USM as a faculty member.

Dr. Nored is an active researcher and has published extensively in the areas of justice policy and administration, child welfare and juvenile justice.  She is the author of twenty books, including legal treatises and textbooks, as well as more than thirty other publications.  She has made more than fifty professional presentations and a successful record of externally-funded projects.  She was appointed to the Commission on Children’s Justice by Chief Justice William L. Waller, Jr. and to the Mississippi State Advisory Group on Juvenile Justice by Governor Phil Bryant.  Dr. Nored was also selected as a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Fellow and received specialized training in the field of child advocacy at the University of Michigan School of Law.

Born in Biloxi, Mississippi and reared in Hattiesburg she is married to Deron L. Nored, Major of Administration with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department.  They are the parents of four sons and reside in the Oak Grove area where they are active in their church and civic communities.
